Zambia’s President Hichilema Fires All Police Commissioners
Africa | Zambia August 29, 2021
Recently inaugurated President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia on August 29, 2021, fired all police commissioners, as well as chiefs of the army and air force, with immediate effect. Also, the president announced replacements for all those who have been fired. That was reported by some African media.
Although President Hakainde Hichilema is said to have not given the reason for firing the country’s security services top brass, many political experts believe that it is part of implementation of a promise he made during the presidential campaign and eventual inauguration, to end violation of individual freedom and particularly political repression in Zambia.
Governments that violate human rights, always do so using national security organs.
