Women's And Men's Marathon Records Close In After Ruth Chepngetich Sets New Women's Record. New Dawn Of Gender Aspects Of Marathon?

Ruth Chepngetich set a new women's marathon record of 2:09:57, at Chicago Marathon that was held in Chicago, Illinois, on October 13, 2024. She mercilessly smashed the previous world record of 2:11:53 that was set by Tigst Assefa in 2023 in Berlin, Germany, by almost 2 minutes.

The extraordinary new women's marathon records can have significant implication for marathon. That is because it clearly shows that women's and men's world marathon records are closing in with both records now under 2:10:00 and above 2:00:00. Currently, men's world marathon record is 2:00:35. It was set by Kelvin Kiptum in October 2023, also at Chicago Marathon.

What the above unfolding dwindling disparity between women's and men's world marathon records may imply, could be asserted as thus.

If women continue to smash marathon records in dramatic manners similar to what Ruth Chepngetich did in Chicago, and men do not follow suit soon, there is no doubt, whatsoever, that it will be just a matter of time before women catch up with men in marathon running speeds. When that happens, there will be no need for gender based marathon runs anymore! Men and women can then simply run together. That will be absolutely fascinating, marking a new dawn in gender aspects of marathon!
