Solomon Islands and China have signed a security cooperation deal, reported some media on April 19, 2022. By the deal, China will assist Solomon Islands in maintaining law and order within the country, as well as ensuring its national security, say the reports.
Following the signing of the deal, USA and its key Oceania allies, namely Australia and New Zealand are said to have cried wolf over the deal, saying that it is no good because it may lead to China stationing naval ships and troops on the islands.
But then, so what if China places naval ships and troops on Solomon Islands. Is it not up to Solomon Islands as sovereign state to decide who they want to cooperate with in various aspects? Such right of self-control of states has always been advocated strongly by USA and its allies in many other similar cases elsewhere, that favor them. _____________________________ © 2015 - 2022 Africauptodate.
