Tanzanian Airbus 220-300 Jetliner Confiscated By South Africa
A Tanzanian Airbus 220-300 jetliner operated by Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) was on August 23, 2019 confiscated by authorities in South Africa just before it was due to depart from Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport to Dar es Salaam. That was reported by some media on August 24, 2019.
The seizure of the recently bought jetliner is said to have been ordered by a high court in Johannesburg, and may be related to some debts owned to some creditors by ATCL before its revival in 2016.
This is not the first time a Tanzanian plane has been confiscated over debts. In 2017 a Canadian court ordered the seizure a Bombardier Q400 plane bought cash by the government of Tanzania, just before its delivery, over a $38 million claim.
