Tanzania’s New President Samia Hassan Orders Reopening Of Banned Media
Africa | Tanzania April 6, 2021
Tanzania’s recently inaugurated President Samia Hassan on April 6, 2021 ordered reopening of media banned hitherto her inauguration. That was reported by some media.
The previous administration in the East African country was persistently lambasted by human rights groups locally and internationally for, among others, curtailing freedom of expression. In response to President Samia Hassan’s order, some local human rights groups are said to have applauded the move but urged her to go further by getting rid of all the country’s laws that violate freedom of expression.
