Tanzania’s main opposition leader Freeman Mbowe and 10 senior officials of his party Chadema, have been arrested, reported some media.
According to the reports, Mr Mbowe and his colleagues were arrested in the early hours of July 21, 2021, in the north-western city of Mwanza, for suspected incitement of unauthorized assembly. Mr Mbowe and the 10 senior opposition officials are said to have been in Mwanza for a planned party meeting about need for constitutional reform in Tanzania.
The arrests have reportedly been castigated by Chadema as repression of the rights of Tanzanians, and continuation of dictatorial tendencies that were inherent in the government preceding the current government in the East African nation. _____________________________ © 2015 - 2021 Africauptodate.
