On December 22, 2022, Tanzania began filling up the reservoir of its gigantic hydroelectric dam that is under construction across the Rufiji River at Siegler’s Gorge. That was reported by some African media. The milestone in the prestigious project was inaugurated by the country’s President Samia Hassan, say the reports.
Construction of the dam called Nyerere Hydropower Station that began in 2019 at a cost of $2.9 billion, is said to be 78% completed. When fully completed in 2024, the dam will have a capacity of generating 2115 MW of electricity, making it the largest hydroelectric power station in East Africa and 4th largest in Africa.

Construction of Nyerere Hydropower Station is being carried out by a consortium of two Egyptian firms, namely, Arab Contractors and El Sewedy Electric, with Tanzanian and Egyptian workers.
A great infrastructure project in Africa, that is planned, designed, and implemented by Africans themselves!
