Updated: Aug 4, 2019

Government of Tanzania and two Chinese construction firms namely China Civil Engineering Construction Group (CCECG) and China Railway 15th Bureau, have sealed a deal for a $265 million bridge over Lake Victoria's Gulf of Mwanza. That was reported by some media on August 2, 2019.
The 3.2 kilometer long cross lake bridge will link the settlements of Kigongo and Busisi near the city of Mwanza. It will replace existing tedious ferry service between the two settlements, that is said to be characterized by massive delays. More importantly, the bridge will connect two parts of a major road to Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi, currently separated by the Gulf of Mwanza..
The project is entirely financed by local funds.
