In addressing the ongoing 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA76) on September 23, 2021, leaders of South Africa and Kenya reaffirmed call for end of economic sanctions imposed by the so-called West, against Cuba and Zimbabwe. That was reported by some media on September 24, 2021.
On the one hand, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa told the Assembly that economic sanctions have caused severe damage to Cuba’s economic development, and that they crippled Zimbabwe’s economy. As such, the president urged for the sanctions against the two nations to be ended.
On the other hand, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya in his address to the Assembly, reiterated the same call but probably in more general terms, saying that Kenya stands with those countries that are still struggling against illegal sanctions and occupation. He continued that such sanctions and occupation cause immense suffering and violate human rights of the people in affected countries.
UNGA76 that began on September 14, 2021, will end on September 30, 2021.
