Severe Drought In Southern Africa With Catastrophic Human And Environmental Consequences

Southern Africa is experiencing severe drought that has resulted in catastrophic human and environmental consequences, reported some media on December 18, 2019.

More specifically, the devasting drought is said to have affected crop and livestock farming hence food shortages, with over 60 million people in the region facing hunger. Among the hardest hit countries in this respect are reportedly Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Namibia.

Also, the drought has triggered change in natural ecosystems particularly drying up of water sources. For instance, due to the drought, water volume of Zambezi River has diminished tremendeously leading to massive shrinkage of the iconic Victoria Falls at the Zambia/Zimbabwe frontier, with possible risk of dissapearance.
