Putin Indicted For War Crimes By Court That Said Nothing During Iraq Invasion That Left 300 000 Dead

The controversial International Criminal Court (ICC) has indicted President Vladimir Putin of Russia for alleged crimes related to the ongoing Ukraine War. That was reported by numerous media on March 17, 2023.
The indictment of a sitting president of a country that is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and especially one of the world’s two nuclear superpowers hence one of the most powerful heads of state in the world, is unprecedented. As such, the indictment that seems to have been founded on emotions rather than intellect, overlooked the implications it may have for world peace and particularly any future attempts to find a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine War.
Paradoxically, the indictment that implies an arrest warrant for President Putin, is by the same ICC whose judges kept their mouths tightly shut 20 years ago in 2003, when the globally condemned illegal invasion of Iraq by USA, UK, and some other NATO countries took place. The invasion was illegal hence breach of international law because it was not authorized by the UN Security Council.
The invaders are said to have destroyed Iraq cities especially the capital Baghdad through indiscriminate bombing of buildings and infrastructure, killing over 300 000 civilians. The death toll from the invasion was probably higher than that from the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan in 1945 by USA when the Second World War was almost at its end.

The invaders of Iraq rationalized their illegal action by arguing that it was vital to get rid of weapons of mass murder there, although reportedly they knew that such weapons did not exist in Iraq. As expected in various quarters including the United Nations, no weapons of mass murder were found in Iraq after the invasion.
With Iraq destroyed: politically, socially, and economically, the invaders left the country and went back home as if nothing had happened! No rebuilding plan for the country was made, and none of the heads of state who started the destructive illegal invasion that entailed numerous atrocities that constitute war crimes, e.g., killing of civilians, rape, and barbaric torture of war prisoners, among many others, was indicted by the ICC, making the court highly controversial and biased.
An international court that does its job without bias is good for the world, but an international court that makes biased decisions is bad for the world. A biased international court is polarising, dangerous, and may cause more problems than solving problems in the world. Within this context, ICC as it is right now, is a bad international court.
