Pope Francis Arrives In DRC

Pope Francis on January 31, 2023, arrived in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for a three-day state visit. The visit to DRC marks the beginning of a six-day visit to the East African Community that will also take him to South Sudan.

According to some African media, DRC that has the largest number of Roman Catholics in Africa, estimated to be 40 million, is reportedly very excited about the papal visit. As such, the government there have ensured that public urban spaces of Kinshasa are spotless, and have declared February 1, 2023, a public holiday to enable its citizens to pray with Pope Francis.

Prior to his arrival in DRC, Pope Francis is said to had lambasted foreign countries that plunder DRC of its natural assets.
