Nicki Minaj Cancels Controversial Saudi Arabia Concert

Nicki Minaj on July 9, 2019 cancelled her planned concert in Saudi Arabia, reported some media on July 10, 2019. The concert was scheduled to be held at Saudi Arabia Music Festival in Jeddah on July 18, 2019. The cancellation is said to have been prompted by massive criticisms the popular rapper received for the concert.

According to the reports, the critics were dismayed by the rapper's decision to hold a concert in a dictatorial country with one of the most appalling human rights records in the world. They particularly cited, among others, Saudi Arabia's chronic systemic oppression of women.

Saudi Arabia is one of a handful of countries in the world where rulers have no electoral mandate, and women's decisions about what they can do with their lives are made by men. Until recently, women in this country were forbidden by law to drive cars!
