Outdated tournament press rules compelled Naomi Osaka to ditch French Open 2021. That was indicated by the World No. 2 tennis superstar in an announcement on Instagram on May 31, 2021 to withdraw from the ongoing Grand Slam tournament in Paris.
In the announcement, Naomi Osaka (23) began by explaining why she skipped a press conference after winning her first match of the tournament on May 30, 2021, contrary to the tournament press rules and, as such, slapped with a $15 000 fine. She said that she always suffers anxiety hitherto encounters with the press, and that she was feeling that way when she decided to skip the press conference in question. She added that her decision was a self-care move.
By inference, Naomi Osaka lambasted the tournament press rules for being partly outdated, probably implying that the rules overlook, among others, mental health issues of players. _________________________ © 2015 - 2021 Africauptodate. All Rights Reserved
