Massive anti-racism protests have erupted in Porto Alegre, Sao Paolo, Brasilia, and other cities in Brazil after an African Brazilian, namely João Alberto Silveira Freitas, was barbarically murdered on November 19, 2020 by two security guards outside a supermarket belonging to the Carrefour grocery group in the city of Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul state. That was reported by some media on November 21, 2020. According to the reports, Mr Freitas was beaten and kneeled on the neck until he died.
The protesters are said to have occupied some Carrefour supermarkets in Brasilia and Sao Paolo, and are calling for boycott of all supermarkets in Brazil that belong to the grocery group.
