Mali’s Highest Court Declares Colonel Assimi Goita Interim President
Africa | Mali May 29, 2021
Mali’s Constitutional Court on May 28, 2021 declared military junta leader Colonel Assimi Goita the country’s new interim president. The declaration followed arrest and detention of former interim President Bah Ndaw, by the military on May 24, 2021. Mr Bah Ndaw has, however, been released from detention after stepping down on May 26, 2021.
Hitherto becoming interim president, Colonel Assimi Goita was interim vice president under Bah Ndaw, in the country’s 18 month transitional civilian/military government agreed last year. _________________________ © 2015 - 2021 Africauptodate. All Rights Reserved
