Liz Truss Is Britain’s New Prime Minister

Africa's Diaspora Communities | Rest Of The World September 6, 2022

Liz Truss (47) is Britain’s new Prime Minister (PM) following official resignation by Boris Johnson on September 6, 2022, as PM. Liz Truss becomes Britain’s 3rd female PM.

The Oxford educated new PM takes the executive throne amid soaring energy prices that have in turn triggered massive rise in costs of living as well as running some businesses in Britain.

Later same day she took power, she began appointing members of her new cabinet. Those already appointed include, among others, the following:

  • Kwasi Kwarteng as Chancellor of the Exchequer

  • Therese Coffey as Health Secretary and Deputy PM

  • James Cleverly as Foreign Secretary, and

  • Suella Braverman as Home Secretary

Even earlier during the day, former PM Boris Johnson in his farewell speech at London’s Downing Street prior to flying to Balmoral in Scotland to give his resignation to Queen Elizabeth II, praised his reign and described himself as resembling, and we quote him partly:

“…. a booster rocket that has fulfilled its function ..”
