Legendary Movie Star Sidney Poitier Dies At 94

Legendary movie star, diplomat, and human rights activist Sidney Poitier is dead. He died on January 6, 2022, in Los Angeles, California. He was 94. Announcement of his death was made by the government of Bahamas on January 7, 2022 and reported by various media.

Sidney Poitier began his career as movie actor in the 1950s. In 1964 he won the Academy Award alias Oscar for Best Actor of a movie called Lilies of the Field (1963). He became the first movie actor of African descent to win the prestigious award.

Some of other big-time movies he played key roles include Duel at Diablo (1966), In the Heat of the Night (1967), and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967).

In many of the movies he took part in, Sidney Poitier portrayed: outright rejection of the race theory, self-confidence, vision, courage, and toughness, among others. As such, he is said to have inspired numerous people of African descent and Africans at large in their efforts to make career breakthrough in movie acting and other fields.

Also through movies in the above way, Sidney Poitier is said to have inspired the US civil right movement as well as the fight against the apartheid regime in South Africa.

In later years, Sidney Poitier became a highly respected diplomat and staunch human rights activist.
