Kenyatta Arrives In Magufuli's Home District
Updated: Jul 6, 2019
President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya has arrived in Tanzania to begin a two day private visit in the country on invitation by his counterpart President John Magufuli. That was reported by some East African media on July 5, 2019.
According to the reports, President Kenyatta's plane landed at a recently built airport in President Magufuli's home district of Chato in northwest Tanzania, in the afternoon of July 5, 2019. He was met at the airport by President Magufuli.
Albeit said to be private, President Kenyatta's visit to Tanzania is seen in some quarters as aimed among others, diffusing tensions believed to have been created by recent xenophobic utterances by a Kenyan member of parliament called Charles Njagua Kanyi. The utterances were said to have threatened personal safety of foreigners including Tanzanians doing business in Kenya. The MP has since been arrested.
