HRW Calls On Tanzania To End Flagrant Breaches Of Human Rights

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called on the government of Tanzania to end its flagrant breaches of human rights in the country. HRW made the damning call in a statement in an article published on October 16, 2024.
In the statement, HRW observed that since June 2024, breaches of human rights by the government of Tanzania have been increasing and include the following.
Arbitrary arrest of hundreds of supporters of opposition parties
Restriction on social media access
Banning of some independent media
Kidnapping and extrajudicial execution of at least 8 critics of the government, carried out by suspected State security agents in civilian attires
HRW added in its statement that, the political environment in Tanzania is currently tense, and as such, failure of the government there to address the ongoing suppression, will only escalate the situation.
