Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council Inaugurated
Africa's Diaspora Communities | Haiti April 26, 2024
Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) alias Consell Présidentiel de Transition was inaugurated on April 25, 2024. TPC that was established on April 12, 2024, takes over Haiti's presidential powers and duties until February 7, 2026, when a new president elected in a free and fair election is expected to be sworn in.
The inauguration of the 9-member TPC followed formal resignation of Ariel Henry as the country's prime minister (PM) earlier during that day. The former PM announced last month that he will go. Ariel Henry will be replaced by Michel Patrick Boisvert who becomes Haiti's interim PM until TPC announces its new transitional government.
Also, the inauguration of TPC is expected to pave the way for the arrival of an international armed force led by Kenya, to help the country's weak police tackle and contain bloody gang violence that has particularly devastated the capital Port-au-Prince.
80% of the capital is said to be under the control of armed gangsters.
