Voters in Gambia went to the polls on December 4, 2021, to cast their votes in the country’s presidential election.
Six presidential nominees are battling for the top political position, namely the incumbent President Adama Barrow (national People’s Party), Ousainou Darboe (United Democratic Party), Essa M. Faal (Independent), Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh (National Union Party), Mama Kandeh (Gambia Democratic Congress), and Halifa Sallah (People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism).
However, some sources suggest that the major showdown at the ballot place is expected to be between the incumbent President Adama barrow and former Vice President Ousainou Darboe.
Gambia has a simple majority voting system, meaning that presidential election entails only one round with the candidate with most votes becoming a winner irrespective of the margin.
