Early preliminary results of Zambia presidential election, that were released by the Electoral Commission of Zambia on the evening of August 14, 2021, with 40% of the presidential vote counted, show that incumbent President Edgar Lungu is trailing his arch-rival main opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema. According to the preliminary results, Hakainde Hichilema is leading with 63% of the counted vote, while Edgar Lungu has 34.6% .
As the vote counting proceeds countrywide, incumbent President Edgar Lungu is said to have bitterly lamented that the presidential and parliamentary elections were not free and fair, citing alleged attacks and even killings of some of his supporters in provinces that are strongholds of the opposition. However, the opposition has reportedly dismissed his claims, saying that the incumbent president is crying foul, and that he should concede defeat instead. _____________________________ © 2015 - 2021 Africauptodate.
