Africauptodate

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has announced a staggering $9 million bounty for the arrest of the leaders of the brutal rebel group M23, and their accomplices. That was reported by various media on March 8, 2025.

More specifically, DRC is reportedly offering $5 million bounty for information leading to the arrest of three M23 leaders, namely Bertrand Bisimwa, Sultani Makenga, and Corneille Nangaa, as well as $4 million bounty for information leading to the arrest of the leaders' accomplices that are said to be on the run.

The three M23 leaders are on death row, having been slapped with the death penalty in August 2024, by a court in Kinshasa, after been tried in absentia.

M23 rebels that are said to be supported militarily by about 4000 Rwandan troops, have recently made some considerable advances in the mineral rich eastern part of DRC, capturing the capital cities of North Kivu and South Kivu provinces, Goma and Bukavu respectively. Reportedly, the rebels are now vowing to proceed westwards to Kinshasa to overthrow the government of President Felix Tshisekedi who has, so far, refused to have any dialogue with them.

According to the United Nations and some human rights organizations, the rebels and their Rwandan backers are said to have committed many atrocities in eastern DRC, that amount to crimes against humanity as well as violation of international law. The atrocities include rape of girls and women, extrajudicial executions, shameless looting of DRC's mineral resources, and above all violation of DRC's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
