Dominican Republic To Build Wall Along Haiti Border

Africa's Diaspora Communities | Dominican Republic February 28, 2021

Dominican Republic intends to build a wall along its 376 km border with Haiti, reported some media on February 28, 2021. Construction of the wall will begin this year and take about two years to complete, according to the reports.

The planned wall will be a high-tech artefact, equipped with motion sensors, facial recognition devices, and surveillance cameras. When completed the wall is expected to curb illegal migration, illicit drug trade, and movement of stolen vehicles along the border.

There are substantial political and economic differences between the two neighboring Caribbean nations. While Dominican Republic is politically stable and fairly prosperous, Haiti has been experiencing political instability for decades and remains one of the most impoverished countries in the world.
