Cyril Ramaphosa was on the late hours of June 14, 2024, re-elected president of South Africa by newly sworn in members of the country's National Assembly. The re-election follows the country's general elections that were held on May 29, 2024, in which Cyril Ramaphosa's ruling party, African National Congress (ANC), albeit maintained its status as South Africa's largest political party, lost outright majority in the National Assembly for the first time since apartheid was abolished in South Africa, and multi-racial free and fair multi-party elections introduced in 1994. It implies a second and final term in office for him.

The re-election of the incumbent president was made possible after ANC struck a deal with the country's largest opposition party Democratic Alliance (DA) earlier during the day, for national unity government. Under the deal that also includes some two small political parties, namely, Inkatha Freedom Party and Patriotic Alliance, DA agreed to support Cyril Ramaphosa's nomination for new president of South Africa in the National Assembly.

The coalition deal between ANC, DA, Inkatha Freedom Party, and Patriotic Alliance is unprecedented hence historic in South Africa. It presents a government based on power sharing model for the first in the country's post-apartheid era.

However, the deal may have some far-reaching political implications for both ANC and DA.
