Malawi's Constitutional Court on February 3, 2020 nullified the results of the country's presidential election held on May 21, 2019.
In its ruling that reportedly took 10 hours to reach, the top court cited electoral irregularities including among other use of tippex liquid on some electoral material as the reasons nullifying the election results.
As such, the court ordered a new presidential election to be held within 150 days. It also ordered, among others, President Peter Mutharika who had been declared winner of the 2019 presidential election and sworn in, to remain on the throne until the ordered new election is held.
