Canary Islands Becoming Popular Gateway To Europe For African Migrants

The Canary Islands that are only about 100 kilometers from the coast of Africa, is becoming a popular gateway to Europe for African migrants, reported some media on November 9, 2020. According to the reports, over 11 000 African migrants have touched land on the Canary Islands in 2020, compared to 2557 migrants in 2019 and the number of new arrivals is just increasing.
On the past weekend alone, 1600 African migrants are said to have arrived on the islands aboard over 20 rather ramshackle vessels, with 1000 arriving on November 7, 2020, and 600 on November 8, 2020.
