Boko Haram Says It Kidnapped Missing Schoolboys In Nigeria

Nigeria’s Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for an attack on a board school in Kankara, Katsina State, in northwest of Nigeria, on December 12, 2020 that left hundreds of schoolboys missing. That was reported by some media on December 15, 2020. The attack took place after some 100 gunmen on motorcycles stormed the school and took with them many of its pupils.

According to the reports, Boko Haram said it kidnapped over 500 schoolboys from the 800 pupil boys’ boarding school. However, the Governor of Katsina reportedly gave a different story of the incident, saying only 333 boys are missing, and that the attackers were armed bandits demanding ransom money. He added negotiation with the bandits are ongoing.

This is second time pupils have been kidnapped by Boko Haram in Nigeria. In 2014, Boko Haram made a daring assault on a girls’ boarding school in Chibok, Borno State in northeast of Nigeria and took with them at least 276 schoolgirls. The kidnapping triggered condemnation and protests worldwide demanding release of the girls. The Government of Nigeria on its part promised it will pursue the kidnappers and rescue the missing girls. Nevertheless, six years later in 2020, about 100 girls are still missing!
