Belgium's Historic New Law That Gives Sex Workers Equal Employment Rights Like Everyone Else Comes Into Effect
A historic new law that gives sex workers in Belgium equal employment rights like everyone else, came into effect on December 1, 2024.
Under the new law, sex workers there will now be entitled pension, unemployment benefits, holiday pay, health insurance, maternity leave, right to enter into employment contracts, and right to choose clients, among many other employment rights. The new law that was passed by the county's lawmakers in May 2024, is a follow-up of a rather ambiguous previous law that decriminalized sex work, that was passed by the lawmakers in June 2022.
Belgium becomes the first country in the whole world to pass and adopt such kind of law that seemingly recognizes the significance of sex work in the modern society. The law is reportedly supported by the United Nations.
