Assassination Attempt On Trump Again. What Is Happening In The Claimed Cradle Of Modern Democracy?

An assassination attempt has been made on US' ex-President Donald Trump again. According to some US media, that happened in the afternoon of September 15, 2024 (local time), after a suspected assassin fired several shots in the vicinity of the globally popular Make America Great Again ex-president while he was golfing at his golf course namely Trump International Golf Club, in West Palm Beach, Florida. The ex-president was not hit.

A secret service agent is said to have engaged the assassin, after sighting a barrel of an assault rifle protruding from a bush at the periphery of the golf course, that was about 450 meters from the ex-president. Realising that he has been discovered, the assassin quickly got into his black automobile and fled, leaving behind on the crime scene an AK47 kind of assault rifle, two backpacks, and a camera. However, he was stopped by police a short while later about 40 miles away, who arrested and took him to incarceration.

Reportedly, the assassin has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh (58). He is a pro-Ukraine activist, and has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine in the ongoing bloody war there, on social media, say the reports.

This is the second assassination attempt in just over two months, on the former US president and presidential nominee for the forthcoming 2024 US presidential election. In the first assassination attempt that took place at a rally in Butler in Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024, ex-President Trump was shot in his right ear but escaped with just some minor injuries, while one of his supporters was gunned down.

Two assassination attempts within a very short period, on an ex-president and presidential nominee, are unprecedented in the USA, and probably the whole world. These incidents raise many questions about what is exactly happening on the political front in USA? The country has one of the world's most sophisticated secret service systems, and yet in two occasions assassins have easily managed to get to less than 500 meters from an ex-president, and unleashed attacks on him. Some global political analysts are beginning to wonder whether political violence has now become common place in USA despite its persistent claim of being the cradle of modern democracy.
