AfCFTA Secretariat To Be Located In Ghana

The secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will be located in Ghana. That was announced on July 7, 2019, by the African Union (AU).

The announcement followed official launching of the AfCFTA earlier same day by the AU during its 12th Extra-Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government. The summit began on July 7, 2019 in Niamey, Niger.

AfCFTA aims at establishing a single African market through, among others, free movement of people and creation of a single African currency. The trade pact was signed in Kigali, Rwanda, in March 21, 2018, and as of May 30, 2019 it had been ratified by 22 AU member states, the minimum number of states required to do so to make it operational.
