Updated: Aug 3, 2019

Trial of rapper A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, commenced in Stockholm Magistrate Court on July 30, 2019. On the first day of the trial, the African American rapper pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault. The plaintiff is said to be a 19 year-old man.

A$AP Rocky was arrested and incarcerated on July 3, 2019, for alleged assault claimed to have occurred during a street confrontational incident in downtown Stockholm on June 30, 2019. The rapper denied any wrong doing, saying he was the one who was assaulted and his only involvement in the incident was defending himself.

The controversial lengthy incarceration of the famous highly talented African American artist under alleged appalling prison conditions, has been lashed in USA and elsewhere, with some critics associating the rapper's case to systemic racism in Sweden. Some of the staunch critics include top celebrities Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Diddy, Justin Bieber, Rod Stewart, Jada Pinkett Smith, Kanye West, Shawn Mendes, and T.I., among others. Even President Donald Trump and some prominent Congresspersons have expressed their dismay about the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the rapper and the manner he has been treated in custody.

Rapper A$AP Rocky was in Sweden for a performance at Stockholm's Smash Festival held on July 2 - 3, 2019.
