9 Killed In Guinea In Protests Against Proposed Constitutional Amendment
At least 9 people have been killed in Guinea after security forces opened fire on protesters opposing a proposed Constitutional amendment aimed at allowing the country's incumbent president Alpha Conde to contest for a third term in office. That was reported by various media on October 17, 2019. The protests began on October 14, 2019.
Constitutional amendment aimed specifically at allowing an incumbent head of state to run for extra mandate period(s) is common place in Africa. It is often a result of acquired dictatorial tendencies by the head of state per se; or/and even silly, naive, and probably conditioned belief by some citizens that there is no other citizen in their country other than the incumbent leader, capable of delivering development to their country!
