4 Expelled WHO Personnel Leave Burundi

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

Four expelled World Health Organization personnel based in Burundi left the East African Community member state on May 15, 2020, reported some media. The four were declared persona non grata on May 12, 2020 and ordered to leave the country by May 15, 2020. No reason was given by the Government of Burundi for their expulsion. Some political analysts, however, think their expulsion may have something to do with their castigation of Burundi Government decision to go ahead with the country's general elections scheduled for May 20, 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Burundi has only 15 confirmed covid-19 cases and 1 death from the disease, as of May 14, 2020.
