$3.5 Billion Uganda-Tanzania Oil Pipeline Project In Doubt

Updated: Sep 7, 2019

Total's $3.5 billion Uganda-Tanzania oil pipeline project is in doubt following an announcement on September 4, 2019 by the French energy company that it was suspending execution of the project.

The suspension of the planned 1445 kilometer oil pipeline that spans from Hoima in western Uganda to the port of Tanga in Tanzania, is said to have been caused by failure by Total to secure a stake in Tullow Oil's oil fields in western Uganda. There are the oil fields, estimated to consist of 1.5 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil, that created need for the planned pipeline.
