Papua New Guinea Contemplates Regulation of Social Media

Government of Papua New Guinea is contemplating regulation of social media to contain what it says spread of fake news. That was reported by some media on May 25, 2019.

According to the reports, the country's Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has asked the ministry responsible for communications and information technology to explore how such a regulation could be effected.

Notwithstanding, however, the planned move by the government is said to have been castigated by critics who argue it will pave the way for denial of freedom of speech in the country.
