Kenya's Progressive Priest Suspended For Rapping

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

A Kenyan priest Father Paul Ogalo of Migori has been suspended by the Roman Catholic Church for one year for rapping amidst church services, reported BBC World Service on June 25, 2018.

The embattled priest is said to be unhappy with the suspension, defending himself by arguing he raps to get young people interested in religion. He continued he has used many other unconventional mechanisms to address young people's issues like drug addiction and HIV/AIDS with great success.

A very progressive priest indeed! After all, if there are gospel songs in other genres like jazz, R&B, etc., why not rap?
