29th Ordinary Session Of AU Assembly Begins Amid Issue Of Reliance On Western Financial Donations

The 29th Ordinary Session of the Assembly Of the African Union, AU, began on July 3, 2017 through to July 4, 2017, overshadowed by the crucial issue facing the continental bloc, about how to stop its reliance on western financial donations for its operations. Despite booming economies in many of its member states, 80% of AU total budget is supported by western financial donations. According to various quarters, the 29th Ordinary Session of AU Assembly may consider among others, a proposal to impose 0.2% levy on imports entering AU member states, as a measure for eliminating the shame of relying almost entirely on foreign financial assistance for AU's budget. _______________________________ © 2015 - 2017 Africauptodate.
