Congo's President's Daughter Under Investigation In France For Money Laundering and Embezzlement

Radio France International, RFI, reported on June 26, 2017, that Julienne Sassou Nguesso, daughter of the president of Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, is under investigation in France, for money laundering and misuse of public funds. Also been investigated for the same alleged offenses and more, is her husband Guy Johnson. The allegations concern the couple's purchase of $3.4 million luxury mansion in Paris in 2006, and its $5.98 million renovation that followed between 2007 to 2011. The investigators would like to establish how the money for the investment by couple was raised. This is not the first time French authorities have investigated the Sassou Nguesso clan members in France, for financial crimes. The clan as well as those of their closely linked Omar Bongo of Gabon and president Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea, have been investigated in France before for laundering of proceeds of corruption and embezzlement of state funds. For instance, the son of president Nguema, Teodorin Obiang, is currently defending himself in case brought to him by a court in Paris, in which he is alleged to have embezzled more than $112 million of state funds, to buy a luxury six storey mansion in Paris, and a fleet of expensive Italian cars. Great action by the French authorities that should be extended to all other corrupt leaders and their relatives living in France, and that should be emulated by all countries of the world that may be seen as safe havens by such corrupt non-patriotic characters. _______________________________ © 2015 - 2017 Africauptodate.
