President John Magufuli of Tanzania who is renowned worldwide for his distaste of corruption, fired his minister of mining on May 24, 2017, during a speech. Also fired at the same time, was the boss of the state-owned mineral audit agency. The firing of the two senior officials follows a recent report that suggests mining companies operating in the country were understating the values of their exports. Even earlier, another report suggested that Tanzania was still loosing billions of dollars in tax evasion despite President Magufuli's staunch efforts for eradicating corruption in the East African nation. _____________________________ © 2015 - 2017 Africauptodate.
