10 Killed In Protests In Ethiopia
Clashes between protesters and security forces in Ethiopia on August 10, 2020, have left at least 10 people dead, reported some media on August 11, 2020. The dead are said to have been gunned down by security forces during protests in the towns of Boditi and Sodo in the southern part of the country.
The protests were reportedly triggered by arrest on August 9, 2020, of some local politicians calling for establishment of an autonomous region state for the country’s Wolaita ethic group. The latter currently belongs to the Southern Nations Nationalities and People Region (SNNPR) state.
Ethiopia is a federation constituted of 10 region states. The country has over 80 ethnic groups.
